WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH.

             The Department of English was established in 1972 with Compulsory English for Pre-degree Arts, Science and Commerce students. In 1972 Compulsory English was introduced at the first year B.A, B. Sc and B.Com. However, it was in 1976 that English as a special subject was introduced for B.A. Post Graduate degree in English was started in 1992. With the increase in student strength, steps had been taken from time to time to widen the infrastructural facilities and create an ambience for excellent teaching-learning and personality development activities for the learners.

              The Department conducts Vocational Course (Functional English) and P.G in a separate building having 11m x 10 m (110sq m) floor area. The department has a well equipped English Language Laboratory having ten booths. The college has started a Soft-Skill Training Centre having 35 linguaphone machines under U.G.C’s C.P.E programme. The departmental library houses 150 books and subscribes to 07 Journals, Magazines, Newspapers etc offering indepth knowledge on all areas related to language and literature teaching.

             Communication Skills in English and Preparation for Competitive Exams courses under Re-structuring Programme are taught by the teachers of English department. The department offers Special Guidance in Spoken English as well as U.G.C’s Certificate Course in Spoken English for the slow learners. The Department of English is engaged in research, faculty development programmes and consultancy, apart from regular teaching work.

Achievements of Department.

•The department of English has been offering “Preparation for Competitive Exams” and “Communication Skills in English"
  Courses to the undergraduate students under the Restructuring Courses of Pune University, this is a unique activity under
  university.
• The department has also been offering UGC’s Career Oriented Course in Spoken English.
• Functional English Course was introduced under Vocational program of First Degree Level from 1994.
• Mr. Prasad Dagwale has been awarded M.Phil. in 2010-11.
• Mr. N.D. Bhandari and Mrs. S.S. Dhimate completed the 10 days Soft Skill Training Program at Pune University Sub
   centre,Ahmednagar.          
• Mr. Borude S. N. presented a research paper entitled “Esther Greenwood as the Alter-ego of Sylvia Plath herself in The Bell
  Jar” in the International conference at BHU, Varanasi, UP.

    Our Inspiration


Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, the pioneer of Sugar Co-operative movement, who had a humble beginning, was chiefly instrumental in, organizing the much exploited sugarcane 'growers of the 44 villages, in and around Pravaranagar, way back in 1948, and establishing Asia's first co-operative sugar factory, which was commissioned in 1950.
