               The department of Geography was started since establishment of the college in 1971. Today, it has a devoted academic community, committed to high standards of teaching. Both, theory and practical courses are being conducted at special levels. The courses belong to either physical or human Geography. As a part of the practical course, the department organizes study tours at different places of Geographical interest in the country. The interdisciplinary courses being taught in the department brings the staff into contact and collaboration with many other disciplines. The department’s commitment to basic and applied teaching encourages students to go for higher education as well as research activities. Besides, Geography is one of the major subjects in various competitive examinations and hence, students find it useful in the study of those examinations.

                  The department has a well equipped Geography laboratory and a sizable staff room. Tracing tables, raised maps, surveying instruments, Survey of India Toposheets, wall maps, weather maps, charts, models, weather instruments, computer sets with internet facility and essential furniture is available in the laboratory.

                 The departmental library with one hundred and ten books and issues of research journals viz. The Deccan Geographer and Maharashtra Bhoogolshastra Sanshodhan Patrika are available in the library. The department offers a degree course (B.A., in Geography) at undergraduate level. The student can choose Geography as a special subject in the second year of this course. Keeping in tune with the changing scenario in the field of education, the department has introduced a career oriented course entitled “Certificate Course in Travel and Tourism”. This course is sponsored by UGC.

                   Along with the conventional methods of teaching, LCD, OHP, Geographical models, internet, maps, Charts are used for making the teaching more effective. Village survey and study tours are organized to provide the realistic knowledge to the students. Open discussions and feedback from the students provide further scope for up gradation.

                  In addition to class room learning, tours, excursions, library, internet, computers, seminars, guest lectures are the other means of learning in the department. The virtual learning center, language laboratory, soft skill development center are the other facilities available in the college for independent learning of the student. The continuous evaluation process through group discussion, seminar, assessment of journals and tour reports is very much helpful to know the subject knowledge of students.

                   At present, one research project sponsored by BCUD has been completed while one minor research project funded by UGC is ongoing. A state level seminar was organized by the department entitled, “Recent Trends in Travel and Tourism”. The staff members of the department provide free of charge guidance to the farmers.

    Our Inspiration

Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, the pioneer of Sugar Co-operative movement, who had a humble beginning, was chiefly instrumental in, organizing the much exploited sugarcane 'growers of the 44 villages, in and around Pravaranagar, way back in 1948, and establishing Asia's first co-operative sugar factory, which was commissioned in 1950.
