Department of Environmental Science

Department of Environmental Science established in the year 1992, is one of the leading departments of Padmashri Vikhe Patil College which conducts academic programmes at PG and Research level.

Any Science/Agriculture/Engineering/Home Science graduate student is admitted to the M.Sc. by following University and Government guidelines.

Department runs on self-financing basis to help the rural students to pursue higher studies and fulfil their dreams.

Considering the infrastructural facilities and staff available for the students to pursue Ph.D studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University has approved our department as a research centre in 2009. So far three students have been awarded with doctoral degree from this centre and two students are doing research work under the supervision of one research guide.

There is one laboratory in the department with well equipped modern instruments purchased out of grants provided by PRES, UGC, DST, DBT and Savitribai Phule Pune University for development and research projects.

Department has a library consisting of 130 assorted reference books, 180 student projects and 70 in plant training project of students apart from the central library of the College.

The staff members are actively engaged in research and extension activities.

In last five years twenty four research papers published in National and International Journals and twelve in Conference and Seminar proceedings. Through research activity, the Department is handling different issues to find some solutions on environmental problems which in turns help to extension activity of the Department.

One minor research project funded by BCUD with lay of Rs.2 lakhs have been successfully completed in previous years.

Department includes well equipped laboratory, instrumentation and computer room with free internet facility. The department is enriched with learning resources such as charts, rock and mineral specimens and modern ICT facilities like computers, internet, LCD helping the students for independent learning. The modern teaching methods are practiced for teaching; like use of LCD, internet, GPS in addition to the conventional methods to conduct few lecturers. Besides learning, department also promote the students for In-plant training, ecological visits, industrial visits and to attend seminars/conference/workshops etc.
